In organic chemistry, the transformation of a primary alcohol to an aldehyde and then to a carboxylic acid is one of the most fundamental oxidation processes. यह श्रृंखला रासायनिक अभिक्रिया का आधार है जहाँ ऑक्सीकरण को नियंत्रित करके अलग-अलग उत्पाद प्राप्त किए जा सकते हैं।

🧠 Explanation | व्याख्या

During oxidation, a primary alcohol first loses two hydrogen atoms to form an aldehyde. With further oxidation, the aldehyde converts into a carboxylic acid. This process can be controlled using mild or strong oxidizing agents:

  • Mild Oxidation: PCC, MnO₂ → Aldehyde only
  • Strong Oxidation: K₂Cr₂O₇ / H₂SO₄ → Carboxylic Acid

अर्थात्, यदि ऑक्सीकरण को नियंत्रित किया जाए तो aldehyde पर reaction रुक जाती है, अन्यथा acid बन जाता है।
